We’ve been extremely daring over the last few weeks, from spice girl hair to glittery eyes, so we thought we’d give ourselves a break and try something a little more wearable. There’s lots of amazing new lip products out there, so we decided to go for matte lips!
Lizzy: This was an easy-peasy one for me, I’m a huge ‘lip’ fan and I’ve always been one for a more matte finish than a gloss. I tried Revlon’s New ColourBurst Matte Balm in Unapologetic, and I absolutely love it! As I’m an avid fan of matte lips, I’ve always found them quite drying, however as this is a balm it really does keep lips hydrated and smooth. I absolutely love all the colours in the range, but I particularly love this punchy pink.
Verdict: CAN
Elaine: A matte, statement lip is what you wear when you can’t find anything nice to wear and your hair just won’t behave. It just pulls everything together and helps you look a bit more ‘done’, even when you have only had 10 minutes to get out the door! Having said that prep for this is key, and here is where lip scrubs become your best friend. For today’s Can Can’t Don’t I buffed my lips using my trusty Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub (this tastes like after 8s, yum) and then applied the most matte lipstick ever made in the world: Illamasqua Obey. This peachy colour is an absolute b**** to work with as it is so chalky, but as a diehard fan of any 60s makeup look I am willing to spend an extra few minutes applying it.
Verdict: Can
Christina: I LOVE this. I always used to like lip glosses but recently have favoured the matte look. I used NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl. I had heard it was the perfect red and I absolutely love it. It lasts forever too. This look is definitely my new fave.
Verdict: CAN, CAN, CAN
Amrita: I LOVE MATTE LIPS! Once you’ve found the perfect matte lipstick/stain, everything else just doesn’t matter anymore and that is exactly how I feel about the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 03 Strawberry Kissed. It’s the perfect matte pinky red lippie that is vibrant and lasts for a good few hours before needing a top up. With a non-drying formula, my lips don’t feel like they’re screaming for a slick of lip balm and the stain doesn’t cling to any dry or flaky areas which is why it’s one of my all time favourite matte lip products.
If you know anyone heading to a country where Sephora is on every corner like there is a Starbucks, ask them to bring you one of these back. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Verdict: CAN. A BIG FAT CAN.
