This week for #CanCantDont we decided to try white nail polish! For a lot of us this was our first time experiencing the Tippex nail trend. Read on to see what we all thought about it…
Amrita – I’m sure everyone, at some point in their life as a teenager, painted their nails white with Tippex while sitting in a boring class and willing time to fly by. Don’t lie about it, I know you’ve all done it.
Well, white nails have come a long way since those days and now I’m a massive fan of them but only as long as they have some sort of detail to them because otherwise they’re a bit, well, boring. My go-to white nail polish at the moment is ‘Blanc’ by Essie which is one of the most perfect white nail polishes I’ve ever used because it didn’t streak on application and it lasted a good few days before I saw any chips which is always a bonus in my books. In true Amrita style, I had to add a bit of colour so opted for ‘Rare’ by Illamasqua on tips to jazz it up a bit and the end result was exactly what I was after.
Verdict: CAN CAN CAN!
Elaine – The white nail or ‘tipp-ex tips’ trend as I like to call it has never sat comfortably with me. I just can’t shake the thought that it looks exactly like you have slathered the contents of your secondary school pencil case over your fingertips. However, never say never, so I went into this week’s Can Can’t Don’t with an optimistic outlook. I used L’Oreal Color Riche in ‘Snow in Megeve’ (weird name) and it didn’t look as bad as I thought it would. I think it helps that my nails are fairly short at the moment, it’s quite a bold trend so I think it would look a bit creepy on super long nails…
Overall it was ok, but that’s it. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it.
Verdict: Can, but probably not again
Lizzy – Nail polish isn’t my desert island make up essential, I’m quite a ‘take or leave it’ kind of nail girl. So this week’s trend left me feeling a little …. meh. I’ve never really had white nail varnish, so I was quite intrigued to see how it would look. I applied two coats of Nails inc Floral Street polish (not very well might I add) and again I’m left feeling … ‘meh’. It’s not really offensive, but I think against the grey, miserable background of a february day it’s just a little much. I can imagine wearing it with a tan!
Verdict: Don’t….until summer!
Christina – I saw this trend in this month’s Marie Claire magazine as a top trend for the season so wanted to give it a go. I’ve never tried white nail polish before and I love my nail polish. I now know there was a reason why this was the case! Tippex nails are not the one for me. I had to apply quite a few coats to build up to a solid colour and even then I wasn’t won over. It’s just not pretty, and that’s why I use nail polish – to make my nails pretty. Sorry, but I just don’t think it’s a great look on me, or anyone.
Verdict: DON’T
Neelam – Having never tried white nail polish before I was excited to see what I was missing out on! I’m not sure why but white nail polish has never appealed to me, maybe because it just looks boring to me or is abit reminiscent of using Tippex at school! I decided to choose Model’s Own Snow White as my very first white polish. It took about 3 coats to reach opacity but it dried very quickly. So was I missing out by never having tried white nails? NO! Definitely not. For me, it was just too stark and didn’t compliment my hands. While I can see why some people love white nails, especially during the summer to emphasise a tan, I’m sorry but it’s just not for me.
Verdict: DON’T
